Growing Pains

Updated: Oct 14

In one of our migrant schools, we built an adventure playground and sports field. The natural grass on the sports field was too difficult to maintain so we decided to replace it with low-maintenance grass.

On the first day back at school, staff and students alike volunteered to plant the new grass.

Despite being the rainy season, weeks passed without rain and our freshly planted grass started to wither! Volunteers worked hard to keep it watered, but with limited access to water, time was running out.

The whole school, our staff and visitors prayed for rain to come. Finally, when we'd almost used the last of the water we'd stored, the heavens opened! The children were delighted that their new sports field could start to grow.

Just a few wet months later, we now have a whole field of low-growing grass for the students, our staff and even visitors to enjoy!

Just as in the story of Elijah and the Widow (1 Kings 17), God's timing and provision is perfect.

"For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.’" (1 Kings 17:14)
