In January, our Global Team met in Germany to receive 100 Little Suns from Agape Gemeinde Church.

These solar lights, now no longer in production, are an essential tool for families, especially women and children, on the run.

Imagine: it's the middle of the night in your temporary camp in the jungle. You need the toilet, but it's not safe to go out in the dark - there are tree roots, insects and even other people that could do you harm. Of course, with no electricity, there are no street lights to light the way either. So, what do you do? Simply slip your Little Sun on its lanyard around your neck, keeping your hands free to respond to any danger, and off you go, able to venture out safely and confidently after dark.

Our Little Suns have many uses. It's estimated that almost 50 million schoolchildren around the world have had their studies interrupted by conflict. On the run, there are no classrooms. Your school is the environment around you. This means that as soon as it gets dark, with no light by which to see, learning ends. With a solar light, however, students can continue studying even into the night. For many of the communities we've supported, this has been integral in ensuring that students can keep up with their schooling, even when fleeing.
It's not only the communities on the run that use these solar lights. Our HUB team regularly bring them into schools and use them to teach students about #hopethatchangeslives. We have even printed our own dual language storybook and accompanying activity book, showing how the Little Suns can bring light in the darkness in more ways than one!
Partnerships like this one with Agape Gemeinde Church enable us to bring much needed light and other essential resources into the lives of communities fleeing from conflict.
